Recycling & Garbage
The Town of Lake operates a transfer station for the disposal of recycling and garbage in separate dumpsters. The Town Hall is located at W8095 County Road E, Park Falls and the transfer station is located just west of the Town Hall. Town of Lake land owners may request a sticker from the attendant or from the town clerk and are then authorized to utilize the transfer station. All materials must be placed in the appropriate dumpster.
The Transfer Station is open Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. & Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to noon.
Items not accepted at the collection site include but are not limited to:

»» paint
»» poisons, solvents, cleaners, thinners, varnishes
»» drain oil and filters
»» anti-freeze
»» refuse from commercial and/or industrial sites
Recycling
Recycling items are accepted in the appropriate marked dumpster. Please break down all boxes. Please rinse all bottles, cans and jars. DO NOT throw your plastic bags in the recycling dumpster.

Recycling Education
Composting in Wisconsin: Compost is an environmentally friendly way to create healthy soil for Wisconsin's landscape. Compost made from yard materials and other organics, like food scraps, can replenish soil with microorganisms and nutrients. Wisconsin law prohibits landfill disposal of yard materials (also called "yard waste"), including leaves, grass clippings, brush and pieces of wood (branches, sticks, etc.) under 6 inches in diameter. How to Recycle Electronics in Wisconsin: Many electronics can't be put in the trash in Wisconsin and must be reused, recycled or managed as hazardous waste. Proper Handling of Used Batteries: Batteries used in many household and office products, as well as motor vehicle batteries, contain a variety of heavy metals and other materials that can be harmful to human health and the environment if not handled properly. Recycling Motor Oil, Oil Filters and Other Automotive Products: In Wisconsin, motor oil and used oil filters are banned from landfills. Please visit https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/recycling/oil.html.
Reducing Food Waste at Home: Food waste and scraps make up the largest part of trash in Wisconsin landfills. When food goes in the trash, so do resources, time and money. Reducing food waste helps save resources used to produce, store and distribute the food. It also cuts greenhouse gas emissions from food decomposing in landfills. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) 2020-21 Statewide Waste Characterization Study found that food waste made up 20% of trash going to Wisconsin landfills. This amounts to approximately 854,000 tons annually, or 294 pounds per person in Wisconsin during the study period. The study estimated that more than three-quarters of this food could have been consumed by people. Please visit

Recycling is mandatory in the Town of Lake.
Clean Sweep
The Town of Lake typically holds a Clean Sweep in May to pick up trash along the roads and for the disposal of items for a fee. Watch the website for dates. The items that can be disposed of for a fee include televisions, monitors, tires, and anything with freon in it. Any item with an electric cord can and should be recycled. All metals will be accepted.
